1998 SEASON REVIEW
For the 1998 campaign, The League expanded to 10 teams, including the return of a prodigal son, Steve Hyland. Coach Hyland was Steve Schiraldi's partner on the 1993 MFL Championship New Yorkers squad. Steve didn't lose a step. He and his partner, Dave Zachrich, took their expansion team, GigaBlitz, to The Mayonnaise Bowl. The return of Steve's fanaticism was also rewarded with The 1998 Ed Lindsey Award. The other new faces were Steve & Craig Koss (old friends of the Commish), taking over the AssKickers franchise as The Victors. They didn't fare too badly either, just missing the playoffs. The second expansion team was run by George Kalet, formerly the partner of John Bowles on the BOB franchise. The Huskies finished dead last in 1997 but pulled off some good mid-season moves and had surprising playoff upsets over Big City and GigaBlitz, capturing a second MFL Crown for Tim Knowlton. GigaBlitz' Steve Young must have decided that Brett Favre's three MVPs in a row were enough. Young recaptured that title (his FOURTH!) with an MFL scoring record 492 pts. Young and Favre have won seven of the nine MFL MVP Awards.
