1992 SEASON REVIEW
Further imitating the NFL, the MFL began divisional play with the 1992 season. Four returning owners matched wits with four new members in two divisions: the Bennett’s Division and the Mr Chef Division. Head to head competition continued, but the playoffs became Division Championships followed by the Mayonnaise Bowl. Draft order was determined by reversing the 1991 finish rather than by draw as in previous seasons. Owners were also allowed to protect two players on their 1991 roster from the draft pool. The new owners took over existing teams (determined by draw-Stallions became Diqueheds, Barbarians became HIV+, Zoomers became Gophers, and Tigers became Untouchables) and were allowed to protect two members as well. Defensive team scoring became less prevalent by removing bonus scoring. Scoring by the DT paralleled other positions (six points for short TDs, nine for medium, and twelve for long) rather than the double points awarded in past seasons. The Head Coach position was also created in 1992. Head coaches were awarded three points for a win by their respective NFL team.
