Mayonnaise Football League Established 1990

1995 SEASON REVIEW

The 1995 season brought few changes in the League make-up. The most notable was the reduction of the season by one week. Previous years demonstrated that NFL teams rested their stars during week 17, making the MFL Championship week a very low scoring one. The 1995 Championship week was moved to week 16 and the scores proved worthy. The Mayonnaise Bowl was the highest scoring in history and the week marked the second highest average ever. Scoring was high throughout the season with most of the high scoring records being rewritten (for teams and the league). The most notable was the big “Clash of the Titans” week 6 when Heroes (ph) defeated BOB (jb/gk) 156 to 147. The season began on a great note with the revival of the “In-Person” draft. The first since the initial 1990 season, 6 of the 12 teams met in Nashville, TN over the Labor Day weekend to choose rosters. Last minute trades were the theme of this draft (a memorable one was written on a bar napkin from the night before). BOB (John Bowles and George Kalet) mastered a few trades and won the Mr. Chef Division title. John was a frequent caller to the Commish, trying to trade, discussing the game, and winning regularly, netting John this year’s “Ed Lindsey Award”. Changes among the owner’s: the Diqueheds franchise was taken over by Dale Needleman, Ken Bason, and Bob Janik (Dale and Ken are veterans of the mayonnaise business making them perfect additions; Bob is Dale’s brother-in-law), Stan Carroll was added to the Big City franchise (formerly New Yorkers), and II Weagles changed their name to BOB. One final note: this year’s Playoffs marked the very first without The Force (Randy Green), who had qualified for five straight years. The Bowl looks forward to his return. And, oh yeah, the Commish finally won.
